BOROUGH MANAGER – Lynda reported that there is graffiti at the park in the bathrooms and on the picnic tables. This was done very recently. June says there is a cult-like group referred to as the Vampires hanging out at the park. The police are investigating. Lynda also reported that council has approved the contract for the feasibility study of the pool which will done by Wade Associates. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that Breon Riegel will paint the stage before Community Days. She reported that "South of the Border Day," held July 30, was very successful. They were sold out of food by 3:30 PM; the sand art tent was the most popular activity. There will be photographs in The Hamburg Item this week; Kim Berger also took some photos for the borough scrapbook. The Swim & Dance turnout was another huge success. The DJ with his light show was a big hit with the kids. The recent rainy weather has hurt pool attendance. There have been no serious incidents at the pool for quite a while. June and Aimee Benfer will clean the Jaycee foodstand next week in time for Community Days. OLD BUSINESS – The next Community Day meeting will be held this evening at 8:00 PM. Some new equipment and games were purchased for the park. Footballs, board games, wiffle ball, etc. have been purchased. Frisbees, hockey sticks, and shuffleboard equipment are on the list for future purchase. It was suggested that an inexpensive digital camera be purchased next year. It was further suggested that we hold off purchasing any more equipment until next year. Last scheduled park day is Friday, August 15. June will ask the park leaders for an end-of-season report in writing. She stated that next year the park leaders will schedule in advance all events for the season. This should help in getting better news coverage . NEW BUSINESS – The park hours as stated in the ordinance were reviewed. Basketball play after 9:00 PM has ceased. In order to play after 9:00 PM, an organized group would need to get permission from council. No changes to the ordinance were recommended at this time. Scott supplied his work number to be used judiciously between the hours of 7:00 and 10:00 AM. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2003, in the caucus room at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM on motion of Anna Heffner, seconded by Tina Yoder.
Respectfully submitted, Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
