MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 7, 2005 REC BOARD MEETING The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Scott Kreider at 7:00 PM. The following members were present: Anna Heffner, Barbara Heffner, Scott Kreider, Mike Stasulli, and Sylvia Summons. Also present were Tammy Wilkinson, Council member, June Hilbert, Recreation Director and Lynn Ernst, Secretary. A motion was made by Sylvia Summons and seconded by Anna Heffner to accept the minutes of the January meeting. Motion passed. BOROUGH MANAGER – Although absent due to a previous commitment, Lynda sent a memo regarding issues discussed at the last meeting. Item 1 stated that the bids for the baby pool were rejected as being too high. Tammy explained that Mr. Wade of Wade Associates had explained the bids were almost double the expected figures. He thought the bids were high because of the short time between the bid and the start of work. June indicated some of the contractors were more interested in bidding on the main pool. Mr. Wade said the DCNR grant has been revamped to include the main pool. The results of the grant should be revealed in April. Item 2 concerned review of pavilion reservation forms and ball field regulations. Scott said the board is trying to make some headway and someone keeps putting up road blocks. Item 3 stated that all summer employees have been hired. Item 4 reported the torn pool cover must be repaired by the vendor to avoid voiding the warranty. June will look into the reason the damage is not covered by the 12 year warranty. Tammy said Dale Schlenker had asked for a five-year plan in October. Mike replied that everything in the annual report comes under the five-year plan. The board will request a special workshop to meet with the property committee.
RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that Wayne Wade of Wade Associates is optimistic about getting the grant for the main pool. She said that summer employees include 13 lifeguards, 2 pool managers, 11 food stand employees, and 3 food stand supervisors. All are part time employees; the pool managers will share the job as it involves too many hours for just one person. All guards are trained in CPR and will have completed Red Cross training. Kristin Ketch, one of the pool managers, is certified by the Red Cross to teach other lifeguards. There will be 1 playground leader and 1 supervisor. Mike said cross off #1a on the annual report regarding evening playground hours. June stated that she had contacted various other playgrounds and most of them do not have any supervised activities any more. GRANTS – Anna reported on the grant writing seminar she attended. The instructor suggested that generic grants be written for what is needed and hold them until money becomes available. She said it was well worth the borough’s money and her time to attend this workshop. OLD BUSINESS – None NEW BUSINESS – Scott reported that the Lions Club is planning to sell ads to place on the scoreboard cover. Tammy indicated that neither council nor the property committee had approved this. The Community Days Committee will meet on Monday, February 14, at 6:30 PM in the Senior Center. The next meeting will be held Monday, March 7, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM on motion of Barbara Heffner, seconded by Mike Stasulli.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
