RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that the pool is very busy due to the hot weather. The playground activities have been very successful; a large group of children enjoyed the walk with Cookie Monster. Mike indicated a problem receiving correct change in the concession stand. June is aware of the problem; she has furnished calculators for employees. The annual pool carnival will be held on July 30 from 12 noon to 5:00 PM using a Mexican theme. Pool volunteers will help with games and decorations. The disposal of trash continues to be a problem. The basketball court is full of trash every evening and must be cleaned up every morning. The children dump trash cans throughout the park; the police are called, but no one has been caught. OLD BUSINESS – The next Community Day meeting will be held on Thursday, July 10. June wants to finalize everything this week. The scoreboard will be installed next year. The recent walk through list was reviewed as some items have already been completed. The five-year plan and capital improvements list will be reviewed and updated. The Property Committee should approve the capital improvements before anything further is done. A letter will be sent to the service clubs requesting their participation in and/or funding of some of these projects. Jonathan Sattazahn suggested that the kids like to skateboard and to play tetherball. June will check if there are any tetherballs; there had been a problem in the past in having the balls returned after use. It was suggested that tetherball players sign out the equipment, with name, address and phone number. A new skateboard facility is being constructed soon in Shoemakersville; this should accommodate any skateboard enthusiasts. Shuffleboard was also mentioned. June will check whether there is any shuffleboard equipment. The new ballfield fence is working out very well; it is set up and removed as needed. GRANTS – BCCF grants are available. Someone is sending Scott information on PA Farmers grants. Anna spoke to Sandy Christman about any available grants. The Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources has walkway grants. She will look for further info on this. NEW BUSINESS – Nancy agreed to fill out an application for a position on the Rec Board. Scott questioned the park hours, especially use of the basketball court. Closing time of 9:30 PM is posted at four places on the park. Play on the basketball court continues until 11:00 PM on some nights. Scott asked what is the borough’s official position on parking on the ball field. Lynn will check on the ordinance which stipulates the park closing times; she will also check on parking on the ball field. The next meeting will be held Monday, August 4, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM on motion of Mike Stasulli, seconded by Anna Heffner. Respectfully submitted, Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
