MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 2, 2003 MEETING OF THE RECREATION BOARD. The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Scott Kreider at 7:05 PM. The temperature in the room was 67 degrees. MEMBERS PRESENT – Anna Heffner, Scott Kreider, Mike Stasulli, Tina Yoder ALSO PRESENT – June Hilbert-Recreation Director, Lynn Ernst-Secretary A motion was made by Anna Heffner and seconded by Tina Yoder to accept the minutes. Motion passed. The Borough Manager was absent; there was no report. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that the pool is open, the water is cold. The new pool cleaning machine was received and is working very well. The staff is continuing to power wash the concrete around the pool. There are many out-of-town season ticket holders. The playground will open on June 16. Louise Gassaman will give free baton twirling lessons every Monday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. She will supply the batons. There will be a monthly cartoon character walk for children under 7. June 24 is scheduled for McGruff and a police officer. A basketball shootout is planned with a weekly prize (pizza) and a champion at the end of the season. Anne Boran will conduct the crafts program; there will be a nominal fee for materials. At the pool, 2 days per week are scheduled for games and play with the swimmers. Many are already signed up for swimming lessons. Anna Heffner suggested that The Hamburg Item editor, Nikki Murry, should interview June at the pool concerning the park and pool activities that are planned for the season. Scott suggested that next year a newsletter highlighting the upcoming park and pool events could be sent along with the season ticket applications. June stated that two basketball nets have been replaced. A new disk jockey with a light show has been booked for an upcoming pool party. OLD BUSINESS – The next Community Day meeting will be held in the council chambers on Thursday, June 12 at 7:00 PM. A photo of the committee was taken and should appear soon in The Hamburg Item. The portable fence grommets have been placed in the ground. The committee reviewed the status of the scoreboard project. Scott indicated that PIAA tournaments could be held at the ballfield after all the improvements have been made. Regarding capital improvements, it was decided to compile a new five year plan. A walk through all the recreational facilities was scheduled for Saturday morning, June 7, meeting at the Hamburg Diner for breakfast at 8:00 AM.NEW BUSINESS – Anna suggested the board actively pursue any grant programs. She will visit Sandy Christman’s office for more information later this month. Scott will contact Nancy Sattazahn to join the Rec Board. He suggested that everyone look for new people to fill the board. The next meeting will be held Monday, July 7, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM on motion of Mike Stasulli, seconded by Tina Yoder.
