MINUTES FROM THE MAY 2, 2005 MEETING OF THE REC BOARD The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Scott Kreider at 7:10 PM. The following members were present: Anna Heffner, Barbara Heffner, Scott Kreider, and Sylvia Summons. Also present were Lynda Albright, Borough Manager, June Hilbert, Recreation Director, and Lynn Ernst, Secretary. A motion was made by Anna Heffner and seconded by Sylvia Summons to accept the minutes of the April meeting. Motion passed. BOROUGH MANAGER – Lynda stated that the borough had received a $300,000 grant to upgrade the swimming pool. Wade Associates will advertise the project and work will start in the fall as soon as the pool closes. The total cost of the pool upgrade is $653,000. Kathleen Maberry submitted an application for the Rec Board vacancy; the Personnel Committee will interview her on Tuesday. Lynda reported she is working on making the park and pool a smoke free facility. She has reviewed the Shoemakersville ordinance. Anna questioned how this would be enforced. June said they chase kids under 18 who are smoking. Scott indicated he was not in favor of this. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June said the center field food stand countertops must be repaired or replaced this year. Several carpenters have inspected it and suggested what should be replaced. They don’t necessarily agree. June will call other kitchen installers for estimates. All personnel for the upcoming summer season have been hired. She will need to replace two refrigerators. OLD BUSINESS – The board met last Thursday at a workshop for the five-year plan. The next workshop was scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 PM in the Senior Center. Lynn has given Mike Stasulli’s resignation letter to Lynda. The Personnel Committee has not yet acted on his resignation. Sylvia has reviewed the minutes for the last two years. She inquired as to the status of the Lions Club project for a press box. Lynda said she had told Kervin Kline that all projects must first be presented to the Rec Board. Sylvia also mentioned using money from the Lenhart Fund for hockey lighting. Lynda indicated this money is being used for basketball lights. Sylvia questioned the PA Farmer Grant from the old minutes. It was stated that these grants go to the Boyertown area. NEW BUSINESS – The board members scheduled a walk through for the two tot lots. This will be done on Sunday, May 29, meeting at 12:30 PM at the tot lot on Primrose Alley. An apple dumpling sale was discussed as a fundraiser. Scott extended special thanks to Barbara for helping draft the pool grant paperwork. Sylvia inquired as to how much involvement can be expected from the council members for Community Days. Lynda explained that council set this up for the service clubs to be involved. She expects that some council members will appear at the event. The next meeting will be held Monday, June 6, at 7:00 PM. The meeting adjourned at 8:35 PM on motion by Sylvia Summons, seconded by Barbara Heffner.
