MEMBERS PRESENT Anna Heffner, Scott Kreider, Glenn Powers, Barry Shollenberger. ALSO PRESENT Lynda Albright-Borough Manager, June Hilbert-Recreation Director, Lynn Ernst-Secretary A motion was made by Barry Shollenberger and seconded by Scott Kreider to accept the minutes of the October meeting. Motion passed. BOROUGH MANAGER Lynda reported that she was unable to find anything on the use of the Lenhart Fund. She will continue to search. Barry will tell Ken Travaglini to pay the hockey lighting bill. RECREATION DIRECTOR June was informed that the pool is leaking again; it dropped 20 inches in less than a week. The same company that repaired it this spring has been contacted to investigate; we will wait to hear from them. GRANT PROGRAMS The Reading Pops Orchestra received a grant for $4000. If we hire them for Community Days 2003 it will cost us $2000. June will contact the orchestra in January. OLD BUSINESS The Lions Club gave the grant applications to Glenn; he forwarded them to Lynda. Lynda will contact the Lions to find out what they want. She is trying to obtain a copy of the Coke contract for the Property Committee meeting on Wednesday, November 6. In the matter of who will replace Glenn as baseball scheduler, he reported that sometime ago he had written a letter indicating the job will be taken over by the Recreation Director. Glenn talked to the Soccer Association about getting a landscaper to restore the field. Lynda suggested they send a letter specifying their intentions. Lynda explained that the installation of the temporary fence was approved by borough council, and council only approved putting up and taking down the fence for each game. It was mentioned that Shillington and Temple use this type of temporary fence. Glenn talked to the company representative that manufactures the fencing and he indicated there were no complaints. There was discussion of placing the scoreboard atop the food stand. NEW BUSINESS At the last Community Days meeting on October 31, the committee agreed to again book the Mudflaps for 2 shows on Saturday, August 16, 2003, at 7 PM and 9 PM at a cost of $2000. In reviewing the financial reports there are two businesses which have pledged financial support that has not been received. They will be contacted. The next Community Days meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 9, at 7 PM. Lynda asked the Board to consider a new schedule to charge for swimming pool season tickets. In todays world, mixed families have become the norm, not the exception, and there were many problems the past season determining the proper fees. She informed the members of how fees are handled at various other pools in the county. The board asked her to develop a schedule for future discussion. Glenn announced his resignation from the board effective December 2, 2002, as he is moving from the area. Lynda accepted the resignation with regret, stating that he was an asset to the board and will be missed. The next meeting will be held Monday, December 2, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM on motion of Barry Shollenberger, seconded by Anna Heffner. Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
