MINUTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 7, 2005 MEETING OF REC BOARD The meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Sylvia Summons. MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Maberry, Lori Riegel, Sylvia Summons, Tammy Wilkinson. MEMBER ABSENT: Tina Yoder. ALSO PRESENT: Lynda Albright-Borough Manager, June Hilbert-Recreation Director, Lynn Ernst-Secretary, Bethany Riegel-Visitor A motion was made by Tammy Wilkinson and seconded by Kathy Maberry to accept the minutes of the October meeting. Motion passed. BOROUGH MANAGER – Lynda reported that additional paperwork has been submitted to DCNR for the $300,000 grant for the swimming pool, and she hoped to advertise for bids after the first week of the new year. She stated that the $10,000 grant has been received. The Rotary Club contribution check is in the mail. Tammy reported she had just applied for another grant for (estimated) $286-$293 thousand dollars. She reminded the board that the $300,000 grant must be matched by the borough, and this can be done with other grants. Sylvia stated she had not seen the plans for the pool; June will forward the book to her. Kathy will attend the Lions Club board meeting on Wednesday to ask for a contribution. June suggested she ask them to hold a fund raiser as they are quite successful at it. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June stated that the job to replace the center field food stand countertops has been awarded to Norman Delong. The work will begin in early spring and should be completed before the Memorial Day weekend. He will need half the money up front. The King Frost food stand net receipts were $257.25. $25.00 must be paid for the permit, which will be refunded at a later date. June attempted to set a date for the next Community Days meeting. It was decided to meet after the January Rec Board meeting. This date will be determined at the December meeting. For the coming year, the board again agreed to meet on the first Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 PM. This will change to the first Tuesday when a holiday occurs on the first Monday. NEW BUSINESS – Orders for poinsettias are being taken. Sylvia is going to Teen Challenge Greenhouse on Wednesday to work out details for delivery. The plants will be ready by November 21 and are slated for delivery on November 28. Members will meet at Sylvia’s house on Thursday, November 17 at 2:30 PM to tally the orders. The park walk-through scheduled for October 21 was rained out. It was decided to postpone this until spring. Dan Roman of the Hamburg Item wants to accompany the group. Kathy asked if all the board members could have a copy of the park rules. Lynda replied that the list of rules and draft of the ordinance have been given to the solicitor for review. Lori said the kids at the park told her they have nothing to do. They asked about converting the hockey area to a skateboard park. Lynda said someone had already approached the property committee about this. The minimum insurance would cost $1000. June remarked that the Shoemakersville skate park which cost $30,000 has been repeatedly vandalized.Sylvia would like to begin another fundraiser in January. It was suggested that a quilt could be purchased from Gifts and Temptations and raffle tickets be sold at the Memorial Day Festival. Sylvia also suggested that the board decide on a specific piece of equipment to purchase for the park. The Recreation Board will meet next on Monday, December 5, 2005, at 7:00 PM.
