MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 3, 2002 REC BOARD MEETING The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Glenn Powers at 7:14 PM. MEMBERS PRESENT – Anna Heffner, Glenn Powers, Barry Shollenberger. Scott Kreider was absent. ALSO PRESENT – June Hilbert-Recreation Director, Lynn Ernst-Secretary A motion was made by Barry Shollenberger and seconded by Anna Heffner to accept the minutes of the July meeting. Motion passed. The borough manager was absent; there was no report. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that Hawaiian Day at the pool was a big success. She would like to set up a committee for next year for a 2 or 3 day festival to include parents, as they were very supportive and approving of this year’s endeavor. Labor Day was the last pool day. It was a very successful season. With careful management there was very little leftover food. The free pool day on Community Day was a disaster. Comments received regarding Community Day were all positive; the only negative was the heat. The Community Day financial report is not yet complete. There was a large attendance at the Mudflaps concert on Friday night. The Saturday night entertainment, Paisley Haze, was great; there was a good youth turnout. Barry and Anna requested an E-mailed list of contributors for follow-up. June was asked for a "wish list." She replied that a new refrigerator and painting in the rest rooms have already been approved by the borough manager. She will submit a list at a later date. Some items mentioned were something to clean the bottom of the pool; the vacuum doesn’t work too well. A new ping pong table is needed, and a lot of maintenance work needs to be done. The sun shade for the picnic tables is ready for use next year. A shaded area for babies and small children is needed as well. OLD BUSINESS – Members of the Lions Club will be at next month’s meeting to update the board on various grant proposals. Barry asked about funds from the Lenhart estate being used for the hockey lighting. He told Ken Travaglini not to pay the bill until he inquired about available funds. NEW BUSINESS – The board requested that a thank you note be sent to Brandon Riegel for painting the flag on the stage. Bills have been sent to the baseball teams for field usage. Barry mentioned that since the soccer association makes a donation at the end of the season, he would like to see that money used to repair the field. The Woman’s Club is looking for projects for 2003-2004. They suggested new stage lighting. It was also mentioned that the tennis courts need resurfacing. The problem of attaining new board members was mentioned. Anna reported that Tina Yoder, a prospective board member, cannot attend meetings on Monday. She questioned whether the meeting could be changed to another night. Glenn revealed that he will be resigning in November, as he is moving out of the borough. The next meeting will be held Monday, October 7, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM on motion of Barry Shollenberger, seconded by Anna Heffner.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
