MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 3, 2005 MEETING OF THE REC BOARD The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Scott Kreider at 7:00 PM. The following members were present: Anna Heffner, Scott Kreider, Mike Stasulli, and Sylvia Summons. Member absent, Barbara Heffner. Also present were June Hilbert, Recreation Director and Lynn Ernst, Secretary. A motion was made by Mike Stasulli and seconded by Anna Heffner to accept the minutes of the December meeting. Motion passed. In the absence of the borough manager, the secretary reported that 753 pool season tickets were sold in 2004; this amount is 84 less than tickets sold in 2003. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that applicants for the pool staff are being interviewed. June met with Wayne Wade of Wade Associates regarding the baby pool. Bids have been advertised and are due in by January 19. Wade Associates will submit grants to the state for a $500 fee. Mr. Wade reviewed our grant application and will check if we can redo it and ask for more money. June has contacted pool managers from other areas regarding their rules for closing in inclement weather; our policy is still being formulated. The borough staff is checking on where to have the pool cover repaired as it cannot be done locally. There is a grant writing seminar scheduled for January 25 at Albright College. Anna expressed interest in attending. OLD BUSINESS – The secretary reported that the park access road from Franklin St. was closed 20 years ago because council did not want cars to drive on the park. A chain across the entrance resulted in injury to a citizen and was removed. There are no plans to reopen this road. The board requested that an access road be available during park events for food deliveries and to avoid damage to the ball field. The annual report from the board to council was due on November 1. The members met for a workshop session on Thursday, December 16 at 6:30 PM to draft the report. The final report will be completed shortly. The Community Days Committee will meet on Monday, January 10, at 6:30 PM in the Senior Center. NEW BUSINESS – Council has reappointed Scott Kreider to the board for another three year term. It was reported that someone had called the borough office before Community Days to ask if they could move the soccer goal posts to erect the big tent. No one at the office knew the soccer schedule. The board recommended that schedules of all park activities be accessible at the office. They would like to review pavilion reservation forms and ball field regulations at the next meeting. The next meeting will be held Monday, February 7, at 7:00 PM. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM on motion of Anna Heffner, seconded by Sylvia Summons.
Respectfully submitted,
Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary |
