MINUTES OF THE JUNE 6, 2005 REC BOARD MEETING The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by President Scott Kreider at 7:00 PM. The following members were present: Anna Heffner, Barbara Heffner, Scott Kreider, Kathy Maberry, and Sylvia Summons. Also present were Lynda Albright, Borough Manager, June Hilbert, Recreation Director, and Lynn Ernst, Secretary. A motion was made by Sylvia Summons and seconded by Anna Heffner to accept the minutes of the May meeting. Motion passed. Scott welcomed the new board member, Kathy Maberry. BOROUGH MANAGER – Lynda stated Wade Associates is finalizing specifications for bids for the pool. She will have more information by next meeting. Councilperson Tammy Wilkinson asked Lynda to report on her efforts to use high school students in community service projects to benefit the park, focusing on fundraisers. She has approached Schuylkill Haven, Exeter and Hamburg high schools. Schuylkill Haven and Exeter require all students in grades nine through twelve to participate in community service projects. Hamburg uses only National Honor Society members. Scott reminded the board that Mike Stasulli had communicated with the NHS adviser, and the group recently completed a survey of fifth graders regarding their ideas and suggestions for the park. Anna stated that the students would not be allowed to conduct fundraisers on campus. Lynda reported on the Jaycees Family Festival. This year the group signed a contract and paid $500 security deposit in advance. Hilltop Lawn Services has repaired minimal damage, and there was no fireworks debris in the pool. She had received e-mail from Jeff Seidel, Hamburg Legion coach, commenting on the good condition of the ball field. Lynda said the smoke free ordinance had been sent to the solicitor for review. They are also reviewing a six-page document of new rules and regulations for the park to curtail the repeated vandalism. Lynda will make copies available to the board. RECREATION DIRECTOR – June reported that Norman Delong’s bid to repair the food stand countertops was $2200. He would fix the wood and cover it with Formica. She also spoke with Larry Ernst who recommended replacing the counters individually. He will check on prices for plastic laminate and stainless steel. Scott suggested cement countertops. June should have all estimates in two weeks; she has stipulated that the work should be completed before mid August. She is still looking to replace one refrigerator. She reported that the stage already has been damaged. Bicyclists are congregating in the middle of Park Road and do not move for traffic. Lynda indicated that more lighting is being installed in the darker areas. A spotlight will be placed atop the pool food stand to shine on the playground equipment. OLD BUSINESS – Community Days committee will meet Monday, June 13, at the Sr. Center. The five-year plan should be completed at the next workshop which will be held June 22 at the Sr. Center. The walk-through date has been changed to June 12 at 1 PM beginning at the Primrose Alley tot lot. Anna reported on her online communication with the National Recreation and Park Assn. for a tennis and park grant. She faxed back the e-mail RSVP form to the organization. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 5, at 7:00 PM. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM on motion by Sylvia Summons, seconded by Kathy Maberry.
