MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 1, 2001 RECREATION BOARD MEETING

The regular meeting of the Hamburg Recreation Board was called to order by Barry Shollenberger at 7:00 PM.

MEMBERS PRESENT – Anna Heffner, Scott Kreider, Barry Shollenberger

 MEMBER ABSENT – Glenn Powers

ALSO PRESENT – Lynda Albright-Borough Manager, Lynn Ernst-Sec.

A motion was made by Anna Heffner and seconded by Scott Kreider to approve the minutes of  the September meeting.

BOROUGH MANAGER – Lynda handed out a brochure from the 13th annual Schuylkill Haven Borough Day.  She reported on Community Day finances to date.  Receipts totaled $4068.00, expenses were $3152.13, leaving a net profit of $915.87.  There will be a final report at a later date.  The swimming pool cover is on, and Aqua Serve will be there this week to take care of chemicals for shut down.  It worked well with Aqua Serve servicing the pool all year; the expense was the same.  The baby pool is leaking as well as the other pool.  Lynda has already  interviewed one candidate for Recreation Director, and there is another interested person.

RECREATION DIRECTOR – No report as Tonya was absent.

OLD BUSINESS – Barry has drafted a letter thanking the Community Day sponsors.  Soccer practices and games will continue at the park till the second week of November.  Work on the field can be done at that time if the weather is not too cold.  Aeration can be done at any time.  The trees will be trimmed this fall.  EPA tested areas in the park and no problem was reported.  The arbor vitae at the park will be removed this week by EPA.  There are two burned out lights that need to be replaced at the park—one at the bottom of the steps at Franklin and Peach, and the other at the sliding board.  It was suggested that the board create a small project wish list for the service clubs.  It was decided to first do a “walk-through” to ascertain what needs to be done.  The following areas will be inspected:  the park, the island in the Schuylkill River and the Hawk Ridge area.  This was scheduled for Saturday, October 13, meeting at the playground pavilion at 3:00 PM.

NEW BUSINESS – Lynda reported that Scott Kreider’s term is up on December 31, 2001.  A recommendation from the board is needed by next meeting.  Scott indicated he would be willing to accept another three-year term.  Another board member is also needed to fill Tim Romig’s term.  The board expressed interest in having Tonya Gerner serve in this position.  It was reported the Hamburg Lions Club has plans to purchase and install an electronic scoreboard and press box at the park.  The next meeting of the Community Days Committee will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 7:00 PM.  This will be a reorganization meeting for Community Days 2002.

The next meeting of the Recreation Board will be held Monday, November 5, 2001, at 7:00 PM.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM on motion of Anna Heffner, seconded by Scott Kreider.

                                                                    Respectfully submitted,

                                                          Lynn Ernst, Recording Secretary
