The King Frost Carnival (as it was called in the early days) has been held in this North Berks Community since 1910 to celebrate the Fall Season and to welcome the coming of Winter. The celebration, interrupted through the years by 2 World Wars, the Depression and the mammoth traffic problems of the fifties still survived. In 1964, the Hamburg Jaycees, an organization of energetic, community-oriented young men, many of whom had never seen a tribute to King Frost, staged a successful revival of the traditional event with a gigantic 8 division parade which saw 2200 marchers participating. Under the Jaycees reins, the parade has steadily grown and has attracted high school bands, drum and bugle corps, U. S. Military bands and precision marching groups from all over Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Added to the increasing list of appearing TV personalities and beauty queens are the hundreds of colorful floats and costumed masqueraders competing for thousands of dollars of prize money. The initial celebration in 1910 had a modest budget of $100, this amount rose to $3,800 by 1924 and has zoomed to over $30,000 in 1994. The Hamburg Jaycees invite you and yours to join 50,000 Pennsylvanians and many out of state residents who will crowd into the community to witness the welcoming of King Frost. The celebration and pageantry are not only Hamburg's salute to winter, but it's the official welcome to all visitors and the traditional homecoming for families and friends. The rain date for the festivities is the first Saturday in November.
